In Memorial of Paul Daniels

We at Fun 'N' Frolic would like to dedicate this blog post to the late great Paul Daniels who passed away shortly after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Paul was a visitor to our store on a number of occasions and we are saddened by his passing. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a holiday celebrated in over 40 countries across the world to celebrate the major role that mothers play in everyday life. On Mother’s Day children buy their mother’s cards and gifts to thank their mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers for everything they do.

Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908 in West Virginia, USA by Anna Jarvis who held a memorial service for her mother. Anna began her campaign to make a Mother’s Day a recognised holiday in 1905 shortly after the passing of her mother. Her mother who had been a peace activist also campaigned to set aside a day to celebrate mothers. In 1908, US congress turned down the proposal to create a new holiday to celebrate mothers. However, by 1911 the celebration of Mother’s Day was observed by all US states with some recognising it as a local holiday. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation to officially create Mother’s Day as a national holiday.
